Ultimate Teammate

September 9th, 2007 Posted in Life

I was just watching Sunday Night Football. Great story about two former teammates for the Dallas Cowboys. Ron Springs needed a kidney and his former teammate from 30 years ago, Everson Walls gave him one of his his. Talk about a gift. Talk about a true friend. Talk about the ultimate teammate. Most people wouldn’t even give a team member $100 or a ride to work never mind their kidney.  I had to honestly ask myself if i would give a kidney to a former teammate from my Lacrosse days at Cornell. Truth be told, my initial reaction is ”I don’t know.”  I like my body parts where they belong–in my body. But I have a feeling that if a friend called me up and was in need, that I would do it.  I guess we can’t be sure unless we were dealing with all the emotions of the situation. I met a woman who gave her kidney to a janitor who worked in her building. She barely knew him and yet she gave him her kidney and a new life. She said she just felt called to do it and didn’t even think twice. I was truly  amazed.  How about you? Would you give one of your kidney’s to someone you work with. Would you give your kidney to a relative? How about a stranger?

I don’t know. I’d like to think I would if someone was in need and if my support meant the difference between life and death. Guess you’re right, you never know till you’re actually presented with the situation.
