After speaking at Guideposts' Power Your Life with Positive Thinking event last week in Minneapolis, one thing was perfectly clear...

"The Secret" is no Secret.

Long before anyone thought there was a secret Norman Vincent Peale talked about the power of positive thinking. Over 50 years ago he founded Guideposts and has taught millions that by changing our thinking we can change our life. By changing our thoughts we can improve our success, health, jobs, happiness and relationships.

His message is still permeating through the world today and continues to impact millions, including me. That's why I'm honored I now write a regular column for Positive Thinking Magazine (owned by Guideposts) and that they are making my national Energy Bus Tour possible this summer. To kick off the tour we'll be on the Fox Network national morning show, Fox & Friends, Monday, May 7th between 8am and 9am.

Everything begins with a thought and that's why if you tell me what you think about I can tell you about your life. As we drive through life our thoughts can either guide us in the right direction or cause us to crash. They can uplift, inspire, encourage, and empower or they can degrade, discourage, sabotage and devastate. Thoughts can help us overcome and navigate our obstacles or cause us to retreat and give up. Thoughts generate energy and energy is what fuels the energy bus and our ride through life. The question we all need to be asking ourselves is, "What energy am I fueling my tank with?" High octane, positive thinking energy or thick sludgy negative thinking energy?

In a world that is filled with naysayers, energy vampires, rejection, challenges and adversity, positive thinking is more important than ever. After all, if we can believe, all things are possible. And as Henry Ford advises "think you can or think you can't... either way you are correct."

If you want to enhance your sales business, stay positive and you will overcome your obstacles and attract all the business you seek. If you want to be happier, start focusing on what's right in your life rather than what's wrong. If you want to enhance your prosperity, stop thinking about what you don't have and start thinking about what you do have. Abundance will flow into your life when gratitude flows out of your heart and mind. If you want to improve your job performance, focus on your strengths rather than your weaknesses. If you want to improve your health, keep a positive attitude since the body hears what the mind speaks. Even doctors now recognize the importance of a positive attitude when it comes to healing. And if you want to build a positive business, school, organization or team... hire and develop positive thinkers that power your mission and goals.

Positive thinking provides us with the power to overcome our relationship struggles, financial challenges, health issues, rejections, tragedies, work issues, job searches, and market conditions affecting our industry and business. Every one of us will be tested on our journey through life but the answer to these tests is positive thinking and positive energy. We can't control what happens to us but we can control our thoughts and they will guide us in the right direction and provide the fuel we need to overcome and succeed.

Every great leader and person in history has had to overcome rejection, adversity, and negativity to define themselves, build their teams and create their success... and they did it with positive thinking-trust, optimism, hope, and faith. If they can do it so can we. After all, how they did it is no Secret and neither is Positive Thinking. So spread the word and tell your kids too. Positive kids become positive adults.
