The Antidote to Fear
Fear, fear, fear. Turn on the televison and that's what you see and hear. The election happened and people are hitting the panic button. Many are basing their beliefs on what they fear will happen, not what will happen.
I can't help but think of the fact that faith and fear have one thing in common. They both believe in a future that hasn't happened yet. Fear believes in a negative future. Faith believes in a positive future. The antidote to fear is faith and it's only a thought away.
We need to stop listening to the media, aka, Chicken Little and have faith in something bigger than ourselves. We are meant to trust in God, not in our political pundits. We are meant to realize that true power exists not in looking outside and feeling fear but looking inside our soul and feeling love.
We need to remember the truth that no one has the power to make you feel a certain way. No matter how angry, how wrong or how inappropriate someone's words are they have no power over you if you understand this truth.
And while I say this there are some who have criticized people who are hurt and angry over the election saying they are choosing to be a victim. The truth is no one chooses to be a victim. They are a victim because they believe circumstances have power over them. They have forgotten their power.
We are all victims when we believe the lies that fear tells us and we are all heroes when we know and live the truth that within us is the power to create the world outside us.
That's why I'm writing this. I don't want you to feel powerless. I don't want you to let fear steal your power and joy. You can love or hate President-elect Trump. That's irrelevant. What is relevant is that you understand the power you possess. And it's as simple as not buying into the lie and living the truth.
So instead of starting your morning by turning on the news, consider taking a walk of prayer. Instead of looking down at the paper, look up to the heavens. And instead of listening to the fear mongers, walk outside, close your eyes, smell the fresh autumn air, take a few deep breaths and discover the real peace you seek. I believe this is the antidote to fear and it is what you, me and the world needs right now.
With this said, I am sorry there are people hurting out there and I don't condone hateful words or acts. As I write in my books, there will always be negativity but we must be more positive than the negativity we face. It's how we will change the world for the better in the long run.
